This site and The Property Playbook are operated by LanternPath, an imprint of Austera Global Pty Ltd (ABN 41 700 870 275) ("we", "us"). If you have a question about anything below, email hello@lanternpathbooks.com.
We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Only what we need to sell you a book and answer your email.
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name and email address | When you buy, or join the mailing list | To deliver your download, send your receipt, and send emails you asked for |
| Billing country / state | At checkout | Our payment provider uses it to calculate tax |
| Anything you write to us | When you email | To reply, and to handle refunds |
| Device, browser, approximate location, pages viewed, and a recording of your visit | Automatically | To see whether our advertising works, to see where readers stop reading, and to fix problems. See "Cookies and tracking" below |
We never see your card details. Payment is handled entirely by our payment provider. Your card number is not transmitted to us and is not stored on our systems at any point.
Five outside services run on this site. Four of them measure whether our advertising works, so we can stop paying for advertising that doesn't. One of them records what visitors do on the page. All five are named here, because you can't make a decision about something you haven't been told about.
| Service | Cookies | What it collects |
|---|---|---|
| Reddit advertising pixel | Yes | That you visited, which pages you saw, and whether you bought. Reddit uses this to tell us which advertisement you came from |
| Meta advertising pixel (Facebook and Instagram) | Yes | The same as Reddit, for advertising we run on Facebook and Instagram |
| Google Analytics 4 | Yes | Page views: which pages you opened, roughly where in the world you are, and what device and browser you used. It is currently set to record page views and nothing else |
| Cloudflare Web Analytics | No | A count of page views and the website that sent you here. It sets no cookies and does not identify you |
| Microsoft Clarity | Yes | How far you scroll, where you click or tap, and a replay of your visit. See below |
This one deserves saying plainly. Clarity turns your visit into something close to a video. Your mouse movement, your scrolling, your taps and clicks and the order you moved through the pages are recorded, and we can play the whole thing back afterwards as though we had been watching over your shoulder. Nobody is watching at the time. The playback exists after you have gone.
We use it for one thing: to see where readers stop reading. That is the difference between someone who left in two seconds and someone who read to the price and thought about it, and those two point at completely different decisions for us.
Three pages on this site have an email box on them, and all three are recorded. The only thing we ever ask you to type here is an email address, and you can read the free chapter and download the scorecard without giving us one. Card details are never entered on this site at all: payment happens on our payment provider's own checkout, which this recording cannot see.
Microsoft is the operator of Clarity and holds the recordings on its own systems, under its own privacy terms.
There is no cookie banner on this site, so these load as soon as the page does. These are the controls that actually work:
Blocking any or all of these will not stop you buying, downloading or reading anything.
When a purchase completes, our server also reports that sale directly to Reddit and to Meta, so we can tell which advertisement produced it. This happens server to server, so the browser settings above will not prevent it. We are telling you because a policy that implied otherwise would be wrong.
What is sent is deliberately minimal:
Your card details, your address and anything you have written to us are not sent. Where our payment provider gives us your name, it is sent to Meta hashed the same way and is never sent in readable form. If you would rather we did not report your purchase this way, email us and we will exclude you.
We do not sell your personal information. We never have and we won't.
We share it only with the services needed to run this properly:
Several of these providers are based outside Australia, most commonly in the United States and the European Union. By buying from us or subscribing, you accept that your information may be stored and processed overseas, where privacy laws may differ from Australian law. We choose established providers with published privacy commitments.
If you buy or opt in, we may send you occasional emails. Every one of them has a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth): we send commercial email only with your consent, we identify ourselves in every message, and we always give you a way to opt out. We do not buy or use purchased email lists.
You can ask us to:
Email hello@lanternpathbooks.com and we'll action it. There's no charge, and we'll respond within 30 days.
Email us first and we'll try to sort it out. If you're not satisfied with how we've handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, and we deliberately keep very little of it. The less we hold, the less there is to lose. No system is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the OAIC as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
This product is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, email us and we'll delete it.
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant and affects you, we'll tell subscribers by email.
